Tuesday 24th 1877 I just came home from the [illegible] he is quite sick with the mumps his neck and face is quite large, very high fever but was some better this afternoon. I never had the mumps & dont think I will have them now, any way hope not Mr. Hunn is fencing his timber land because they put a bridge in the branch south of his field so he will fence all the travel off past his house I think he is very unwise and all for spite as our little girl we had used to say. have you had the mumps I think you said you had. they appear to be very severe. the [illegible] I hope will be better soon. I will close my little letter with may good wishes to you hopeing you are well and getting along nicely. did you ever see a nicer spring is [more?] [illegible] weather then now. again I,ll say good by Ellie
