Green Tomatoes Pickled.(Sweet) Mother Gay Slice green tomatoes in a jar sprinkling in a plenty of salt among them. Cover them with cold water & let them soak for 2 days. Take them out of brine & pour over them boiling water. Let stand 24 hours. Now they are ready for the pickle. To 1 qt sharp vinegar put 1 pt. hot water, 2 large cups sugar, 1 tablespoon each of powder cloves, cinnamon, pepper, alspice, mace, nutmegs & handful of raisins. Scald all together then put in tomatoes & cook till tender. Can use more sugar & less vinegar if you prefer.
