To Cleanse Hair Brushes. Cleanse hair brushes and combs by washing them in a quart of soft water, in which has been stirred three of four teaspoonfuls of liquid ammonia. Lice on Fowls. To exterminate lice from fowls, dust the fowls thoroughly with dry sulphur. The sulphur may be applied with a spice-box, having the cover perforated with small holes. Spots Ammonia For light colored carpets take Ammonia. For furniture covering & silk upholstery reduce it with a little water. Grease or almost any kind of stain will yield if used several times. Dab it on, not rub for rubbing is apt to raise the grain of material. It can be used on silks woolens & cottons. Removes ink from marble paper & wood. Grease flies before it. Diluted with water, spots from orange, lemon juice or vinegar can be removed from most delicate materials. For very nice fabrics [javelle?] water (get from chemist) is also good. Benzine will remove paint. Naphtha is better for delicate fabric. If in removing stains, the color departs from material dab it with chloroform.
