To bleach Cotton Cloth 1 lb Cloride of Lime in 1 pail of water. Let stand over night - then strain off - add 3 pails warm water. Wet the cloth evenly in cold water first then put in the prepared water. Let it stay it 15 min. stirring it all the time. Rinse in cold water & boil in a good suds. Then rinse well again and spread out over night. Oil-Spots Removed. To remove oil spots from matting, counterpanes, &c., wet the spot with alcohol, rub the wet spot with a hard soap, then wash with cold water. To Imitate Hardwood. For treating the ordinary pine board floor to give it the attractiveness of "hard woods," wash the floor a few times ( until the color is satisfactory ) with weak sulphuric acid, applied with a soft brush. Then oil and polish, or simply finish with shellac. To Take the Shine off Worn Silk. Use spirits of ammonia or alcohol diluted with water, and applied with a sponge. To renovate old black silk, use the same and press on the inside.
