north-western part of Black Hawk Co. on Cedar river which runs though the northern part of town. The river is about the size of 'Coon but always clear. Near town is a nice falls, about six or seven feet descent in the river. The town is quite an active place of about four thousand inhabitants. The town has three school building, two large brick and one frame buildings, there are about twelve church congregations four of them, Methodists, Presbyterians Danish, and Catholics have each large brick chuches and Baptists have a large frame church. All the churches are near the center of town. There is one paper mill for making brown paper, one corn canning factory. The I.S.N.S is situated nearly a mile and a half from town-direction southwest,- on elevated ground and overlooking the town. There are three
