Several horses in the neighbor- have died of this diseased, Samuel is farming on his Grandpa's farm & boards at home - we have hired help on the farm this year - his family lives at Surry, he goes home every Saturday evening - & comes Monday mornings. Coal town or Angus & Surry have nearly lost their identity. Coal business is at low ebb in those towns. Many houses have been bought & moved in the surrounding County. They can't even afford any more school at Surry - what few pupils still remain come to the school close by or go to Maple Grove Ellen is teaching close by Mrs Lidia Potts Wiant but boards at home. It is about five miles distant She drives a horse & cart. Maud is teaching where she taught last winter she will not be able to get home often during the term of school. She speaks of her school as the most interesting one she ever taught. Oh! So sad yesterday I met on the st of Rippey Dr Shiply & he told me that Milton that was again very sick with no hopes of recovery, we were down to see him in the fore part of March, he seemed to be on the mend & I was looking forward to his
