I must tell you what sort of a time I had about 10 days ago. Mr. Sperry, of Davenport, formerly of New Haven, came to New Haven about a month since, to see his friends & acquaintances & to choose a partner for life. We were acquainted with each other before he left N.H. 2 yrs ago, and on Tuesday Eve 29 ult, he entered the sacred bonds of matrimony with a lady of Oxford. On which occasion I had the pleasure of being the first groom's men with the bride's sister. The wedding took place 7½ P.M. The bride was beautifully dressed in white Satin Silk & decorated very handsomely indeed every way. When the hour came on all four of us went into the sleigh accompanied by two other lady friends, went to the Episcopal Church - 1st bride's maid & myself took the lead to the altar - and then Separated - making room for bride & groom - then after usual ceremonies were performed bride & groom took the lead coming out & we followed - & all entered the sleigh again & returned to the bride's house - and there spent the rest of the evening or rather the rest of the night most pleasantly. This new couple contemplate leaving here in March for Iowa & make there permanent residence in that State.
