give her a private examination. Good night. Wednesday - Jan 24. The dreaded day! This morning we wrote a composition on Winter & were examined in spelling, definitions reading, & geography. Practical arithmetic took all the afternoon. I feel ashamed of my reading. I think it probable that I have the average in most of these studies, but not anything great. I am tired. Thursday - Jan 25. We were examined in History, Physical Geography, Grammar & Intellectual Arithmetic. I cried this noon for I was so discouraged. I do rather expect the average & hope to pass "respectably" high, say 8th or 10th, but I am not at all sure of that. Will know Sunday or perhaps Saturday.
