To Cure The foot rot in Sheep Take verdignese and blue vitriol (commonly called blue stone) and Gun-powder equal quantities Mix them well together in fine power Then add either Linseed or Sweet oil enough to make a paste Pare out the rotten part and apply the ointment To Cure a bad leg Apply poultices of water and charcoal reduced to a very fine powder For Bruises Sprains and Rheumatism Take of oil of Turpeintine One ounce olive oil Two ounces and half Sulphuric acid one Dram Shake it well and apply to the afflicted part [abbreviation for a note] an ounce of soap may be added and will I think be an improvement To Cure Boils and other breakings out on the Skin Take Brimstone a quarter of a pound and Cream of Tarter an ounce and half and saltpetre half an ounce Boil it in of two quarts water for a quarter of an hour Strain it and about at a cup full of the clear water twice a day An Excellent Poultice for a bad leg Apply to it Burdock root bruised as a poultice and drink Burdock tea for a Month or two To Make Paint Take of skim milk two quarts Of fresh quick Lime two ounces Whiting six pounds Pour Milk enough on the Lime to make a paste about the thickness of cream Then add the remainder of the milk mix and then powder the whiting and strain it over the other It will soon sink to the bottom and will be fit for use To the above add one pint of boiled (that is linseed oil) Cheap good Blacking Take small beer half a pint Ivory black and brown sugar of each one table spoonfull Boil it together five minutes When cold add the white of two eggs and mix it well together A Remedy for Strains and bruises when the skin is not broken Take soft soap a pint of good vinegar the same quantity One handfull of salt and and a table spoonfull of saltpetre Mix it abason and bathe the part with it It is good for any swelling before matter is formed and will without doubt prevent Whitlon's and Fellons if applied in time
