Bad Eyes If much inflamed take gold-litharge in very fine powder what you please put it into a golly-pot add a very small portion of vinegar Stir it with a little stick then add sweet oil and stir it well again and so continue to add vinegar and oil by turn many times untill you have an ointment like thin Cream apply this on dock [brouse?] if you can get them or on soft leather to the eye brows and eyelids but be carefull not to let it get into the eyes. Then make the following ointment and put a very little bit of it into the corners of the eye night and morning take [hogs larid] Ounce sugar of leaf in very in very find powder 30 grains- mix the two together well and use it as above directed or anoint the eyelids with the pat of a rattle-snake Another Take rose-water two ounces white vitriol three grains laudannum ten-drops Honey 20 grains mix and filter the whole through paper [??] one drop of laudannum make with wine dropt into the eye is very good An ointment for bad eyes Take spermacit (or if that is not to be had) hogs lard one ounceHoney half an ounce sugar of lead twenty five grains reduced to a very fine powder laudannum a tea-spoonfull Mix it well together and a little int he corner of the eye twice a day Gravel Two or three teaspoons full of magnesia two or three time a day in warm water Fevers of different kinds If the person is sick, when first taken give a vomit if not give five grains of [balomel] made up into a pill with crumbs of bread or it may be taken with a little sugar if the person prefer it On the next morning give a dose of Talap or Sonna tea and a little cream-tarter or salts with it let no spirits be given nor animal food but let the person drink barly water and eat water gruel or bread and water if the stools are very dark and offencive the Colamal and Physick must be repeated several times if the [urjory] only let the balomel be reduced to three grains instead of five. For the Gaut When in the stomach Drink a bason full of very strong tanney tea sweetened with treacle When it is in the handfoot of knee mix Molajsesand yellow soap equal quantities and mix up with a little white hellbone and apply it to the afflicted peace
