A Cure for Scouring in horn Cattle Take Fenugreek Anniseed and Cummin Seed of each in [???] one Ounce Logwood in powder one Ounce Roach Alum half-an Ounce To be given in Beer and the Bullock to be kept in house on hay for several day It may be repeated daily as long as necessary Another for the same Take prepared Chalk 4 Ounces Bole-armenic and Annised Seed in powder two Ounces ginger in powder 1 Ounce Alum in powder 3 OuncesLaudannum (called Tincture of Opium half an ounce Misc it well together and give it in a quart of warm ale or gruel In some casesthe Alum may be omited and the same quantity of salt given in its stead keep the Bullock in on hay as before Another for the Same Take Castile Soap 2 Ounces dissolve it in a quart of warm gruel Then add prepared chalk 4 Ounces ginger in powder 1 Ounce Rhubarb in powder half an ounce Sweet spirits of Nitre 1 Ounce Tinctur eof Opium (Laudannum) half an ounce Misc and give it in a quart of warm gruel It may be repeated every other day for some time if necessary the Cow kept in as before Another Take prepared oyster shells and prepared Chalk of each 4 Ounces ginger and gum - [???] in powder of each 1 Ounce Tincture of Opium (Laudannum) half an ounce To be given in a quart of warm gruel Another Take gum-[???] in powder and Peruvian bark in powder of each 1 Ounce Pomegranate-shell in powder 2 Ounces Tincture of Opium (that is Laudannum) half an ounce to be given as before Scouring in Calves Take Rhubarb in powder 2 Drams - Caster oil 1 Ounce prepared [???] one teaspoonfull Misc and give in a pint of Milk This will carry off the offending matter The nesct day the following must be given Take Chalk 4 Ounces Crabs-eyes prepared 2 Ounces Bole Armenic 2 Ounces Bone burnt in the fire till white in powder 2 Ounces ginger in powder 2 Ounces Misc themn well together give a large table spoonfull of this powder in a pint of new milk morning and evening same time before the calf is fed Continue untill the scouring ceases If very bad a Tea spoonfull of Laudannum may be given in every dose Reliable Cure for Diptheria Make two Bags that will reach from ear. to ear. and fill them with Ashes & salt, dip them in hot water, and wring them out so they will not drip. and apply them to the throat; Cover them up with aflannel [sic] cloth. And Change them as often as they become cool. until the throat becomes irritated near blistering. for Children it is necessary to put flanel Cloths between the ashes & throat to prevent blistering. when the ashes has been on asufficient [sic]. time. take awet [sic] flanel Cloth. and rub it with Castile soap. until it is covered with athick [sic] lather. Dip it in hot water and apply it to the throat. and change as they cool. At the same time use agargle [sic]. one tea spoonful Cayene pepper one of salt, one of molasses. in atea [sic] cup full of hot water. and when cool add one fourth as much cider vinegar. and gargle Every fifteen minutes until the patient requires sleep. A gargle of Castile soap is good apart [sic] of the time.
