-54- thee did awake the dead, in many. A song of Everlasting joy has arisn in my heart for thy kind aid extended to me. Farewell, farewell dear friend. Remember my love to all of thy family. Joel Johnson. Sometimes I do weep when I recall the precious seasons to mind that we had in Europe, (viz.) Aamodt and around there. And so lovely to think of the good looking, and sweet faces. That tender people in Norway; I shall never forget their quiet manners and gentle approaches, and kind hand shakes while I have a memory. These people are very near the kingdom of Heaven. I love them in my heart. Ida, when we were at Woodland meeting on first-day, winter before last; Henry Outland preached Mary Grifin out of the meeting house. And we were to go to Purvis to dinner. But the old Enemy tempted me; and said to me to not go with Ida. O, I was covered with total darkness for a few minutes; death connected it. O, O, Ida, so dark was that spirit. O, I can't tell thee to the full: and all at once, quick as lightning a voice said to me: "If thou doesn't go with Ida to Purvis thou will deny the Saviour like Peter did." I turned to thee and helped thee in to the carriage; and we went to Purvis. And when we arrived there thou was near fainting, and I helped thee to lie down on the lounge. O, how glad I am to-day; I did obey the voice of the Master
