-75- before Jesse Negus came, and brought the letter from North Carolina; did I feel I should have to go. And that was the evening before I started the next morning; I did not know then, that I should have to go. But felt it in that degree that I told the children of it. I was reading in a wonderful striking book at the time. It made me fear, and tremble, in my mind, the very thought of it if I should have to go to North Carolina, then. After a little came Jesse Negus with the inquiry: "Where is Lester?" We told him. He then went to Lester, and after some time returned to the house with these words, "Well, I have been out to see Lester, Rachel wanted me to go and see him first; and he says thou hast no prospect of attending North Carolina yearly meeting: so I will just give thee this letter inclosed in mine to thee with request form to get it to thee at once." Jesse asked me no questions, and I having felt only for a short time, (less than one hour that I might have to go), said nothing about it, not seeing really, that I should have to go. Jesse was in quite a hurry any way. The next morning in our Bible reading I felt the movings of life to stir in my soul; with a feeling to go to North Carolina yearly meeting: which naturally made me
