-85- thy letter, full of heavenly life; and refreshing to my spirit. Thou surely was sensible or understood my needed help at that time ____'s letter was stirring up my mind. I was trying to obtain the concent of my mind, as to when I would go over there (to Woodland). I was all in confusion and darkness over it. When I read thy letter that settled all with me in peace and harmony: and glad I was; and do rejoice now to be out of the confusion and stir of the wicked one. I know that serpentine spirit is over there. I have been bitten by them; and have seen them in their mad state. O, how I pity them, poor things! This reminds me of the time I was to go to Europe from Philadelphia. North Caro-lina yearly meeting sent their forces to cut me off. The impression was with to stay away from there then. And it proved my salvation. The Enemy of all good was defeated by my obedience to the divine impression in my heart. I look upon these things as the highest favors and blessings the Hand of God has bestowed upon us. Ida, I have felt the life to write to thee for several days past; with increased openness and pleasantness. I esteem it one of the greatest priviledges I have on earth.
