-90- is frozen. My heart beats warm with that Gospel life that has no end. I feel the movings of that life in my heart as the day spring from on high; that has pass-ed me through many wintry seasons safely, Ida. Today I have been reading the book of Daniel, I noted the divine protection and deliverance of Daniel in the lion's den; also, the destruction of his accusers that were thrown in after he was taken out. I also read of the three Hebrew children, that were cast into the firy furnace. Who, were taken out and not a hair was burnt on them. These are wonderful records left for our instruction. We see Daniel and the three Hebrew children yielded their bodies to seeming death; rather than to disobey, or prove traitors to God. After this we see they were all promotted and honored for their fidelity in the truth: while all of their enemies were slain. These are wonderful things; and prove that the true church; or its true members often are crushed down or crowded out. And the truth and true church retire to the wilderness; where they can commune with God. This is the history of the church many centuries ago; even before Christ was born etc. We have seen that spirit of persecution manifested by those, whom, we once looked upon otherwise. The spirit of the wicked one is the same in all ages. All that are taken with it, and practice it are members of the false church; and not of the true church of Christ.
