- 11 - see God in the clouds holding out His hands to protect me; and I felt it would be alright for me to leave the next day as planned by mamma. We did so and I only got better instead of worse. We had some very solemn religious oppertunities whilst there and met William Sturge and his religious son who helped Edward carry me down stairs and lifted me into the taxi. I can almost see yet little Annie running along side of the train waving at us as long as she could keep up until her face was red. Thus we parted and were on our way towards Birmingham; a beautiful ride accross the country as our cute little train went along very swiftly swaying from side to side. Most of the fields were divided by stone fences or green hedges neatly trimmed; with here and there a little stream of clear water winding its way thru the beautiful green fields. The gardens and every thing else looked well kept, as if a business like and tidy people dwelt in the land. We saw some country buildings with straw roofs, but most of the houses we saw were construct-
