- 34 - of doors, and also as dust caps indoors. We had some solemn meetings well attended. After one week mamma was better; and it seemed the right time for she and Georgetta to go to Germany. Some Friends in England had arranged to pay their way, also the interpreter's fare (who was Adolf Bauman). It was arranged for me to stay at Uncle's; and have Ida Mary for nurse. We had not had much chance to get acquainted; and the girls were quiet and backward. But after mamma and Georgetta had gone; my little nurse came in quite bravely, offering to do anything she could for me. And we got along fine; and soon got acquainted. This also gave me a good opportunity to learn more of the language: and we had several funny times when I was trying to explain something, and couldn't find enuf words. Uncle would carry me out doors in the mornings. And no matter how busy he was would take time to prop up doors or something else to shelter me from the wind. And at all times showed great kindness, gentleness and concern that I be taken good care of, often saying kind and encouraging things to me; which cheered me much.
