-10- Recently we were grieved to our very hearts to read the speeches the Judge made in sentencing two young men - the one to die! When we see our fellow men plunging down the hill towards destruction, would it not be better along with reproof, to give a helping hand and a word of hope to these to climb up rather than to give them a last kick or shove down the hill accompanied by words of hopeless despair for them." - And what is the State feeding the youth on? - foul movies and theatres where they view scenes of robbing and killing; and liquor to benumb their best judgment, - then kill some of them when they fall a prey to those gross evils put before them! Why not reform the environments? and try to reform those fallen to sin, rather than to plant the evil seeds, then kill the victims? The following are examples of the nearly 100 comforting letters I received from people in Iowa, showing their sentiment against Capital Punishment, and for the power of God's love: - "Dear Mrs. Chamness: I just want to ex-press to you my heart-felt thanks as a resident of the State of Iowa for your interest in and for the kindness you have extended John Mercer. I know he must have loved you very much for helping him in securing pardon from his Heavenly Father, and for the motherly interest you took in him. I imagine his heart was just hungry for such mother love as you have shown him. "The Christ-like qualities you possess are what the country needs today. If every
