Davenport May 31, 1867 Friend Clark, Yours of 20th came to hand in due time. I should have answered sooner but have been delaying in the account of the [illegible] on teachers. I was in hope they would have a meeting before the meeting of the Board. But the chairman of [illegible] away & nothing can be decided for a few days. I will use your name as an applicant for position. As to probability of success I cannot say positively. There are us less than five or six other applicants & they are several of them on the ground awaiting the result. I will write you again in a few days. Very Respy. W.A. [Bennis?] Supt. P.S. Rose will undoubtedly remain in E.D.
