Davenport Feb 13th 1869 Dear Andrew, Your kind letter has remained thus long unanswered just because I have felt quite poorly much of the time, and had nothing of interest to write only the same story of discouragements by reason of ailments. About toe weeks ago I was very weak and seemed to lose strengths so I concluded to see Dr. Worley. He called & gave me a little medicine and told me I must eat all the most nourishing food I could and drink Whiskey and cider with eggs as much as I could bear. So I have been stimulating some & trying to follow his directions as well as I can; and for the three or four days last passed I have not felt as much of that sinking faintness as of late before & hope I shall get above it. I cough some mornings & nights yet, but feel some stronger & encouraged I hope not to get more cold. It rains today. The weather has been warm much like April & May East [muthe?] snow The frost if out of the ground, but I expect cold weather yet but like the warm if the sun shines as it has many days
