Sept 8 Up early and prepared to go to camp as we ware relieved by part of the 17th Ind Reg. Went the old pike before the [illeg] of and then down the valley pike to the camp. Rained on me all the [day?] Got word that Captain Bennett was going to leave us, he haveing been promoted to Major in some new Regiment in Indiana [note: the 36th Indiana Infantry] and ordered to report [illeg] immediately. Which news created considerable feeling among the boys as most of them hate to see him go. Received a letter from Sally not very good news in it. Stated she was sick. Sep 9th Captain Bennett left for Indiana this morning . What he will
