myself 2nd Lieutenant which no doubt will be pleasant news to Sally and the rest of the friends at home. Got orders that we must go on picket tomorrow. Moved my quarters to Marifield. Sep 11th weather wet and cloudy. news that our pickets were being attacked and driven back.1 man in Company F killed. 3 men in Co H bad wounded. Excitement high as it is believed that the enemy are advancing for the purpose of making an attack. Our company ordered to the breastwork at the junctions of Elk Fork. Commenced raining afternoon. Started letter to Newton this morning.
