[illeg] regard the enmeys position [illeg] march up Elk Fork to Point Mountain 9 miles over the worst road I ever traveled. After scouting around there until satisfied marched back by way of Old pike before spoken of making in all 24 miles by the time we got back but boys come in game. Sept 20th Remained in camp all day. Received a letter from Sally. Good news and good encouragement als[o] received [one] from David Beaver asking me about knowing getting his son Luther dicharged. Foolish man [illeg] gaming health evry day [illegible] children [__y?]
