Tonight we will make an advance on the enemy before morning as we are ordered to cook and put into our haversacks one days rations. 12 pieces of cannon have advanced as far as Cheat River bridge. The boys are all good and anctious for a fight and hope they will [_ar__el?] before another freeze comes. Oct 3rd Weather verry variable all day. Sometimes raining sometimes sunshine and very warm and then again cloudy and cool.
