Monday Oct 7th 1907 The opening meeting of the year, of the Cary Club, was held Monday afternoon at the home of Mrs A.[?]. Hutchinson. Eighteen members were present and responded to roll call with miscellaneous quotations. The new President, Mrs T.R. Alexander, gave a short and appropriate address "Poetry Before the Revolution" was the subject of a paper given by Mrs Max Yoris and "Poetry During the Revolution" by Mrs Alexander, follower by current events. after which club adjourned to meet in two weeks with Mrs T.R. Alexander, Mrs Shumack favoured with vocal solos during the social hour and the hostess served light refreshments. The following [illegible] poem was given in response to roll call by the hostess, which was very much appreciated by the ladies of the club. "We meet again, my sisters dear, With hearts both sad and merry; God grant to us a happy year And bless our dear old Cary. Hearts are sad for the absent face, Merry for the joys to come; May those who fill their places Find with us a happy home. For our club is a part of our home life And our sisters are as dear. We forget the world is full of strife When we meet together here. God grant to us that no dark night Our club year may unfold And [illegible] keep both fair and right Our colours: White and Gold."
