-June 1935- The W.C.T.U. met June 25 with Mrs. Lord and Mrs. Brownwell. Devotions were by Mrs. Stewart. We sang, This Is My Father's World. The reading was from Romans 14-and 21, and Cor. 9, Stumbling blocks. As the President, Miss Butler, was out of town, the vice president, Mrs. W. J. Stewart, presided. At the request of Mrs. Stewart, a few words of deep appreciation were spoken by Mrs. Robert Lincoln in memory of three of our members who have recently passed away, Mrs. Stocks, Mrs. Garrett and mrs. Garner. Mrs. Stocks organized a W.C.T.U. in Ionia. Gave her our money as prizes in S.T.I. there. Mrs. Garrett sent a word of cheer to those who could not come. Mrs. Garver passed suddenly, since out last meeting. Mrs. Stewart read a communication from our absent president, Miss Butler. Mrs. Watland reported that she had heard, from a source outside the W.C.T.U., that Miss Bailey had provided two membership tickets to the Institute, for members of the W.C.T.U. Mrs. Hess reported that the flower com. had distributed 35large bouquets in town, and that 57 bouquets were taken to Toledo, by Mr. and Mrs. Kearney. Miss Bailey said she had been asked by Bill Pearce to have the W.C.T.U. have a float in the 4th of July parade. She said she asked him not to have beer adds in the float or the concessions. He said they had not asked the per parlors to be in the parade, but asked we not to be hard in our judgement if they invited themselves in. He said Stanley Preston said the ferris wheels would come from Newton. We voted to have a float. We elected Miss Butler chairman of the com. We allowed 73 cents to Mrs. Hamilton for S.T.I. expenses. We allowed a bill of $1.35 to Mrs. Hess for flowers and cards and ribbon. We voted that Miss Bailey write to the champion the places that do not sell beer.
