Jan. 1940. The W.C.T.U. met Jan. 16- 1940 with Mrs. Robert Lincoln. There were 12 present. Meeting opened by singing "My Faith Looks Up to Thee." Jessie Lincoln had charge of the devotions. The president, Mrs. Mitchell, presided. She read a letter from her cousin who is a missionary in Nebraska. Rev. Walter Wilson, pastor of the First Friends' Church, was the speaker of the afternoon. "The Challenge of Today's World to the Church, was the subject of his talk. Mrs. Mitchell stated that she had gone to the home of Dr. Steiner and extended the sympathy of the W.C.T.U. to the family in the death of Mrs. Steiner which occurred Jan. 7- 1940. She has also written to Mrs. W.J. Neely who has been in the hospital. Miss Sherman stated she had sent a number of Union Signals to both the quadrangle and to some of the boys' halls. Minutes of last meeting were read. Voted funds to Light Live, Lillian Stevens, Frances Willard and Legislative funds. Mrs. Lincoln said the beginning of the new semester was the time to start the essay work. The Matter of what is to be done in regard to the programs was brought up. The secretary had suggested that a business meeting be planned for February, and the plan for the programs be arranged later. Miss Sherman stated she would like to have the Feb. meeting if it could be arranged. Adjournment Nellie Lincoln, Sec. pro tem.
