1944 217 June 1944 July 18, 1944. June 20 - 1944 - Met with Mrs. Watland. Mrs. Mitchell told about aprons. Mrs. Loose led devotions: "The Kingdom of Heaven is as a MAN traveling." Mrs. Mitchell said one of our good and faithful numbers had passed away, Mrs. C. S. George. Mrs. Mitchell spoke words of praise of Mrs. Hess and Mrs. Germann. Mrs. Manson presented the program on the topic, Womens' Activities in War. In the Industries and in the Services. The minutes of the April and May meetings were read and approved. Mrs. Loose suggested a tea for new members in August. Voted that we send a card of sympathy to Mr. and Mrs. Cranny because of their son's death. (This was done) Ada Park - secretary. July 18, 1944 - Annual Picnic, at home of Nellie Lincoln. Devotions by Mrs. A. W. Howell. Mrs. Mitchell presided. Apron money, $21.01, collected, ready to go to Temperance Education Fund. Committee appointed to entertain new members: Mrs. McBlain, Mrs. Manson, Mrs. Evans. Mrs. Mitchell read letter from Senator Wilson. Com. to nominate officers for next year: Mrs. Stewart, Mrs. Comstock, Mrs. Swain. [Dr.?] reports on Grinnell's quota: Grinnell's quota to Educ. Fund $224.00 $114.35 collected already. W. C. T. U. MEETS AT ED LINCOLN HOME The Ed Lincoln, Jr., home was the gathering place of 30 members and friends of the Women's Christian Temperance Union Tuesday. $276.00 quota to County W.C.T.U. Grinnell still ought to raise $118.00. Mrs. McBlain tells, and Mrs. Mitchell discusses [Bruners'?] Holiday. Mrs. Watland told about the protest we signed at the June meeting (H.R. 2082). Guy Gillette, Senate Chamber, Capitol Bldg., Washington, D. C. THURSDAY, MARCH 2, 1944 Local and Personal Earl May Garden Seeds and Vigoro at Western Auto Store. Mrs. Vinton Tiedemann from Waterloo spend the week end in the L. C. Tiedemann home. Mrs. E. L. McClure, Mrs. Wilma Huff and Rev. and Mrs. A. W. McBlain drove Friday to Guernsey, where they put on a temperance program before the assembled high school and upper grades of the public schools. Mrs. McBlain spoke on "Narcotics"; Rev. Mr. McBlain talked on "Why I Don't Drink", and Mrs. McClure gave a demonstration on "Habit" and distributed leaflets, "Nicotine Knockout or the Slow Count", by Gene Tunney. They were invited to return at a future date. Miss Jane Huff accompanied them home.
