233 Feb. 1946. Mar. 1946. W. C. T. U. HAS FINE PROGRAM Mrs. C. D. Loose was hostess to the Women's Christan Temperance Union at a meeting in her home Tuesday afternoon. Mrs. Nina McCarger was in charge of the program. Devotions were led by Rev. Leslie McCarger, who said in part, "Some children are trained up; some just grow up; and some are 'jerked up.' Parents should keep up child training. It takes practice to train good adults. It will take years of training to rebuild the nation. " Mrs. W. Hicks sand a sacred selection, and Rev. A. W. McBlain gave a talk on social problems and family life, concluding with the admonition, "To know what to do, ask at the feet of God." The program closed with a service of recognition and welcome to new members conducted by the president, Mrs. H. A. Jackson, assisted by Mrs. A. W. McBlain. On Feb. 19, 1946, the WCTU met with Mrs. Loose. Rev. Leslie McCarger led the devotions. Mrs. A. A. Hicks offered prayer and also sang a sacred song. Mrs. Nina McCarger was the program leader. Rev. A. W. McBlain gave a talk. Mrs. Jackson presided. The minutes of the Jan. meeting were read and approved. Mrs. Jackson suggested we ask Mr. John [Gournaway?], who is candidate for State Representative to speak at our next meeting. Mrs. Skiles says the LTL membership is Nov 43. Mrs. Jackson, assisted by Mrs. McBlain offered greetings to all who had joined since recognition day last year, and gave each a bow of white ribbon. Adjourned. Ada Park, Secy. March 1946. The WCTU met March 18, 1946 with Mrs. John Evens. Edna Sherman read the devotions, Ada Park presented the program, on the subject, Something for Nothing, and Mrs. Stewart presided. Mrs. Skiles said the Loyal Temperance Legion (the L.T.L.) is officially organized as a part of the national organization. The February minutes were read and approved. The treasurer reported $42.97. Miss Sherman read a letter from Gov. Blue. She said Gov. Blue had gone to Eldora to investigate. Also that Gov. Blue had secured soldiers' utensils for soldiers' hospitals. Mrs. McCargar said a lady who has been active in Y.T.C. will be in Iowa in Mar. or April. Mrs. McCargar was made chairman of a com with power to select fer own com. to see if the lady can speak in the H. S. The treasurer says she paid Mrs. Conard's dues from the treasury. Advised we send card of greeting to Mrs. Conard in St. Francis Hospital. Adjourned. Ada Park, Secy. W. C. T. C. MEETING HELD WITH MRS. Stewart, vice-president, conducted the meeting, and Miss Edna Sherman led the devotionals and read a letter from Governor Blue acknowledging a communication.
