October 1949. Nov. 1949. Oct. The WCTU held Family Night on Oct.12, because the hosts, Rev. + Mrs. Bartow had to go out of town on the scheduled date. The devotional leader, Mrs. Garnet Skiles, had to be at her own prayermeeting, so the devotions were led by Rev. A. W. McBlain. Mrs. Athena Mortimer presented the lesson. Mrs. Bartow played accompaniments to a duet by Mrs. Mortimer and her friend Mrs. Fred McDowell. Children of the LTL who had been drilled by Mrs. Allen, were presented by Mrs. Saville. The collection was $4.28, and was given, with the addion of money from the treasury to come to $5.20 to the Centennial fund. The program, in the North Side Friend's Church, was preceeded by a picnic supper in the Parsonage. Members and friends, including a dozen children, attended the supper. Adjoinment - Ada Park - Sery Nov. The WCTU met Nov. 15 - 1949 in the home of Mrs. George C. Murray, who was out of town on account of the death of a relative, but whose daughter, Mrs. Earle Kennedy, received us. 21 were present, including 2 children, the swell daughters of Mrs. Willis Tingle. Devotions were by Mrs. Manson. Mrs. Stewart and Mrs. McBlain talked about the lady that talked at the Gates Lectures on the subject Faith. Mrs. Ralph Allen told of the convention at Fairfield. A theme was, "The Spirit of God, and the Power of the Spirit. FORWARD in united continuous Service. WCTU has 1123 new members in Iowa. LTL - 107 NEW in Iowa. 71 new complete families. 170 new honorary members. 315 new white ribbon recruits. 566 LTL in Iowa. One Union sends Union Signal to Sheriff. Magazine called "Movies" - We ought to get rid of this magazine. We need convictions and goals to vie a sense of direction. The Sept. Champion says to commend the National Broadcasting Company (NBC) for not taking liquor ads. Minutes of October meeting read and accepted. Voted to accept a paper-rack that Mrs. Skiles offers us.
