Nov. (continued) Dec. 1949. We should encourage our chief of police in his effort to curb drink. Tell him how many members we have, and that we stand back of him 100% Voted that Mrs. Bartow and the Secretary write him a letter of praise. Nine Members express disapproval of groceries being sold on Sunday. Mrs. McBlain and Mrs. George C. Renaud and Mrs. Skiles were appointed a committee to write a remonstrance to grocery stores that keep open on Sunday. Iota Sigma in Grinnell. She has been the presidint of Iota Sigma in Fairfield several years. Adj. Ada Park, Sery. Dec. The WCTU met Dec. 20. 1949 with Mrs. Manson. Mrs McBlain presided. Devotions were led by Mrs. Sylvia Sparks. The program leader was Mrs. Theodore Olson who took over the task because Nellie Lincoln could not do so. Mrs. Allen said the LTL have had enough speech contests so they can have 5 winners compete in a final contest. The final contest must be open to the public. It will be held next month in the South Side Friends Church. The secretary's report was read and approved. Also the treasurer's report. $3.06 was allowed for flowers for the funeral for Mrs. Ella Rickard (Mrs. Elmer) who passed away Dec. 16. 1949. Mrs. McBlain said she had pinned on the white ribbon bow. The secretary reported that she had sent a letter of condolence to the family and received a card from them. Mrs. McBlain said several people had spoken to the proprietors of the stores that had been keeping open Sunday. She understood that Mr. Bobstedt had been planning for some time to sell his stores. Opinion was offered that someone had talked to Miss. or Mrs. Cox and had been given to understand that they hoped after New Years they could keep the store closed on Sunday. Mrs. McBlain says Mrs. Glatfelder has a list for an Iota Sigma. Mrs. McBlain says lets pray that God will be with Mrs. Glatfelder as she tries to organize the Iota Sigma. Many mothers of LTL children are WCTU-'s. Those who passed away during the WCTU year Sept. 1948 to Sept. 1949 were Mrs. Florence Williams, Mrs. John Evans, Mrs. Aldace Chied. and on Dec. 16 - 1949 Mrs. Ella Rickard. (Elmer)
