402 reported on the 93rd State Convention which they had attended in Clear Lake Sept. 25-27. $5.20 was allowed Mrs. Adams on her expenses. Interesting facts from their reports: - 134 present at convention. Thank offering was $93.30. State president's message was entitled "Up! For This is the Day." 75% of teen-agers arrested are beer drinkers and most of these learned to drink in their homes. Boy in third grade are smoking. We should have a certain time to invite young women to our meetings, and encourage them to become members. We should display our U.S. flag on national holidays. State officers were installed at the conventions and the banquet was a highlight with Maurice A. Le Paske attorney and mayor of Sioux Center, as speaker. We were reminded of defeat of proposed parimutual betting in Iowa, and that the W.C.T.U. had lobbied against it. Featured evening speaker at convention was Rev. Cletus D. Hair, house parent at Jerry Rabiner Memorial Boys Ranch in Ft. Dodge. The next state convention has been invited to Oskaloosa in 1968. Meeting closed with prayer by Mrs. Allen. Lunch was served. W.C.T.U. met with Lela Adams Nov. 21. Mabel Morgan led in devotions on the subject - "Intercessory Prayer". Mrs. Adams read some Thanksgiving poems. After salutes to flags, the question - "What is the W.C.T.U.?" was discussed as to its aims, etc. Mrs. Allen presented the program with use of blackboard. Subject was "Organized Force," featuring Home Protection and Christian Outreach. Annual membership week (Nov. 12-18 was stressed. Other articles 0 "Responsible Motherhood" and "Teaching in the Church School," also "Beverage Alcohol and the Brain." A discussion of facts and plans followed. Mrs. Allen volunteered to be the director of Christian Outreach department. Meeting was dismissed with prayer. W.C.T.U. met with Mrs. Allen on Dec. 19, Lela Adams presiding.Mrs. Adams led in devotions, using the subject - "Growing in Christlikeness" from Eph.4. She also read an article "The Master's Hands and our Hands." Minutes were read and approved. Reported 53 visits and 28 cards sent. Replies from Burke Hickenlooper and John Kyle, in answer to legislative letters, were read. We were reminded that we should wear our white ribbon pins, and that neckties and old nylon hose are needed at the V.A. Hospital. A card to Eloise Keister was signed by those present. Carol Sammons presented the program which included articles - "Well, a Little More Time." by Bob Considine and "Christian Liberty" also a Christmas story.
