Miss Bailey will send for one thousand leaflets before the Fair to be distributed. Twelve ladies were in attendance. Meeting closed by repeating the mizpah benediction. A social hour followed and refreshments were furnished by the Pres. which were very much enjoyed by all. Mrs Woods Assistant Sec. [Attached Newspaper Article] W.C.T.U. Annual Report of Secretary, Grinnell Union On account of the annual meeting being changed to August, we have held only eleven meetings with an average attendance of 17. Some of the topics used were "Temperance and Missions," "Inebriate Asylums," "Moral Education in the Home, at School and in Society," "Effect of Tobacco Upon the Heart" and "Benedict Home." Three new members have joined the Union this year. Some who kindly consented to lead devotional exercises were Mrs. J. A. Brown of Wichita, Kan., formerly President Grinnell Union, Mrs. Isabell Brande, Miss Ella Marsh and Rev. Viola Smith. The words and prayers of these ladies were very helpful. We wish to thank them and also those who furnished music. We have held one parlor meeting and one picnic. A Market Day was held in April which gave us $34.58 for our treasury. Notices of the meetings have been published in the church calendar and in the local papers. Report of the State Convention, an article on "Inebriate Asylums," and one on "Dress Reform" have furnished material for the W. C. T. U. column in the local papers. A barrel of canned fruit was sent to the Benedict Home at Fort Dodge. Cards with scripture verses and one hundred bouquets were sent to the girls at Mitchelville on Flower Mission day. The Union contributed $5.00 to Miss Hopkins to be used in the recreation fund for boys and girls. The schools were all visited, the prize of three dollars offered by the Union for the best Temperance essay written by a pupil, was won by Erwin Lemley. Temperance leaflets have been distributed in Sunday Schools and in the Congregational Sunday school Temperance address has been given every Temperance Sunday. Two thousand nine hundred Temperance leaflets have been purchased this year for distribution. [Signed] Sec Officers. President - Mrs. Robert Lincoln. First Vice President - Mrs. Effie Stocks.
