May 15 1917. Met in the In. E. church. Mrs. Stocks read Matt 28. and made an appeal for giving to the starving and the prisoner. Mrs. Sophis led in prayer. Min. read and ap. Mrs. Walland reported two more contests held, one in the Friends church and one at Westfield. Mrs. Stocks, Mrs. Walland & Mrs. Sophis elected delegates to Co. convention June 25. Mrs. McGuin then instructed the Union how to make the Comfort Bags and we worked on them. Sec. June 19th Met in Baptist church. Mrs. Brande - vice Pres. presided in the absence of the Pres. Mrs. Woods led the Devotional meeting. Mrs. Brande led in prayer. Sang Battle Hymn of the Republic. Min. read and ap. 10 essays written. Mrs. Buck reported Prize essay read before school and $3 given to Deloris Schwab. Mrs. Clark reported flowers sent to Mitchellville, 100 bouquets, some texts. Mrs. S. A. Martin then spoke on the school there. It teaches Domestic Science, gardening, music, etc but lacks religious training. She left a painful impression of lack of sympathy for the girls in the Church at Mitchellville, and the dangers from men that prey on defenseless girls. They need our prayers and sympathy. A discussion of local conditions followed. Mrs. Stocks was appointed a team to see Mifs Palmer and the mayor. [Mizpah?] Sec.
