143 Aug 20- 1923 The August meeting of the W.C.T.U. met in the Congregational Church for the annual meeting. The president opened the meeting. Mrs. Chas. Woods led the devotionals. The Union sang, What a Friend we have in Jesus The Chaper in the 13th of Corinthians was read and exhorted upon. Following this reading Mrs. Wood offered prayer. During the business session it was voted to pay $1.00 for a lot of books to be given to the Holiness College of the University Park, near Oskaloosa. The book were a donation to Miss Clara Millard Severtinka of Saratoga Springs NY. Mrs Lincoln reported the receipt of a barrel of fruit jars at her home to be filled with fruit for the Des Moines Home of unfortunates. Following the business Miss Word Miss Harriett Buck and Miss Jennie Baily, gave reports of the County Corrections which was held at Searsboro Aug. 8 It was the day when flags were hung at half mast and hearts were saddened over the message bearing the death of our president Warren G. Harding. 7:30 PM. Aug 2, 1923. A delegation of twelve workers attended from Grinnell including Miss Hollister State worker. Mrs. Mollison from Malerie and a lady from Grant joined the company The president of Searsboro meeting served dinner for all the convention. Miss Harriett Buck reported $60 in Treasury Mrs. Watland reported 12 Union Signals were being taken. Mrs. Hessgon the flower mission report present Mrs Robert Lincoln was reelected president the ensuing year and Mrs. W Word our V. president Miss Harriett Buck treasurer and Mrs. GW Richards secretary Miss Jennie Baily sec. pro. tem.
