Cornell College Mr. Vernon, Iowa April 28, 1889 Dear Father and Mother. It has been two weeks since I wrote and now I will make up for it. This has been 4 weeks in Mt. Vernon and I think this is the deadest town in the universe, but the College is allright and I would like to go through College, but don't believe it would pay. We have dropped off potatoes for supper, so it is not so much work. Sue joined the Clionian Literary Society last night iniation fee $1.50 I had an election to a society but am not going to join. My Sunday school teacher, the minister's wife, said to-day that she wanted her class to write an essay on the Life of Christ, and to hand it to her in about 4 weeks, but I don't care about contesting as there are a couple of seniors in my class and their productions would be so much (upper margin) near Keedicks for sale and there are plenty to rent but I believe rents are high. Write soon and tell all the news. Yours W.H. Childs
