(written above first line:) I had lots of splendid vines but they are drying up they were all bearing pumpkins Squash cucumbers & water melons it looks like rain here now but all signs fail in a dry time 80 dollars a term 9 months and they get 10 cts an hour for all the work they do and are obliged to work 3 hours a day same as the boys. their own cooking baking washing and everything is done in the college by the girls as you see they have to earn 30 cts a day any way and as much more as they choose some of them nearly pay their way there is upwards of 30 girls there now I think there will be no trouble but [illegible] [illegible] will give [illeg] the mitten but do not let them know I wrote any thing to yo about it has our folks concluded to send [illegible] to Philadelphia [Mily] wrote they thought of it and I think it will be about as well she will always make trouble any way when the girls & [illegible] is gone she will treat mother dreadfully I must write some to Henry tell Stella I would like to hear from her and would like to see her and [Willie] [illegible] will answer soon as you get time and Oblige you will have to work to read this I am washing today and write while the clothes are boiling from your sister Kate
