interests I thought would be too conflicting & besides I wished to be the headman - I have commenced this spring seven causes in the Supreme Court & four in the Common Pleas, and with a determination which nothing shall shaken I am resolved to push my way in spite of all obstacles. If fortune favors me I shall be alongside of others in my profession - I have boarded for about two years in a private family and in that respect am very pleasantly situated. I may be actuated by vanity (but I rather hope an honest pride) when I say, I believe I stand in point of character and reputation upon a level with any, and that my word is at all times holden good - And I can also say that the taste for Literature which you took such pains to encourage me in has proven a solace & consolation when I had nothing else left -- I could at any time beguile hours which would hang heavy upon me by conversation with books. & I have in leisure moments written a good many articles for our newspapers which have been well received - I forget whether I wrote that I had received a bundle containing some shirts from Young Merritt he sent them to me after my telling him not to make his appearance in my sight without them. In regard to health I have been favored beyond most men - I had the influenza two years ago which gave me a bad cough that was somewhat alarming, but since that time I have been unusually robust & hearty - Mr Stevens will tell whatever else you want to know he & Harris are my very good friends as far as professions will go - You must excuse a long letter and believe me my dear father Your affectionate son, Henry Eno Stephen Eno
