New York Feb 14 1844 Dear Father I presume you are aware I am about to become a "western man", it was my intention to have visited you before leaving this spring, but I find my time so short and so much occupied that I shall be oblidged to defer it till September. - I have leave next week on Thursday for Kinderhook with my family. - they are to remain there till fall, or till I get a place in good order to receive and make them comfortable - I wrote brother Henry that I was very anxious to go and in company with him, and hoped he would be ready to go by the 10th or 12th of March. I now wish to start from New York as early as the 4th of March if he is with you still request him to write me directed to Kinderhook. Circumstances which I want not to control has placed me in a situation, which on (illegible) (illegible) I have thought expedient and propose to change to that of a western wool grower - in doing this I do not intend to loose sight of my mercantile knowledge - I think it will be a great advantage to me. - But as I (illegible) situation I can not in any fair prospect for me to remain here - My
