W. Eno Eng Campo Seco Sept 18 1856 Dear Mother I really do not know whether I am your debtor for a letter or not I only know that I have not received one from you for some time. I wrote to Mary last month & think she will have a good laugh at my bad French. I am much interested in her letter & hope she will write one frequently & make allowances for my want of punctuality in conversing - the truth is, I have a great many letters to write at each semi monthly mail - We are all well and sound - Elizabeth however has been very sick & for eight or ten days I was fearful might not recover. little Carri is well as can - now moves about the house & begins to chatter a little - we of course must have a bright young one - My own health was never better - for the last two years I do not recollect having even a slight headach - I believe I wrote to Mary to inform you that I was a candidate for County Judge - if the Election should come off this week I should be elected by a large majority altho I am an old [illegible] Whig I now am (illegible) [illegible] County is the banner County of Democracy - I have once acted as Judge for five years I made the only good judge they ever had (you see how modest I am) but there is no [illegible]
