what changes may take place between this & Election day - the bitter feeling of party may swallow up all other considerations - the office is a good one so far as money is concerned & that is what I now look at principally The salary is $4000 a year & I can make my living without using a dollar of it - again if elected by a fair majority it perhaps will place me in a situation in which I can aspire to something higher - parties are then (illegible) situated & next winter two United States Senators are to be chosen, I have had intimations that in case Calaveras Co should throw her vote for (illegible) that I might be farther up by the (illegible) party That party may perhaps be the
