of the State the war would have been ended before this time I conversed with two Gentlemen yesterday that came direct from Kansas through Missouri and they said that they traveled 25 miles through Improved farms in Missouri which was all deserted people had left it crops destroyed & they also said that the Kansas Boys was paying the Border Ruffains of Missouri a high percentage for the Devilment they have done heretofore they said whenever the Kansas boys wanted Beef Pork horses or cattle they cross the River and take it from the Secessionists and that kansas was filling up fast with Runaway slaves when the Masters came Inquiring for their Property General Lane tells them to take it where they can find it but there was no property in man they must not take the negro that he had 2 Regiments of Kansas boys that will protect them & was willing & Able to keep the North West of Missouri in good sub[illeg] after long praying. Kansas day has come to cancil the old deds those men fetched horses to their friends to Iowa call those men what you please sister Climene Jakey wants i should write he dreamed he kissed Grandma Mother wants me to write to Grand Mother when she thinks the war will b[e]out when [illeg] well be success full Jakey has Got his new Soldier cap made and they call him Colonel now Billy & Ginny & I Husked 75 bushels of Shelled corn in one day when Father is working [illg] for 12/- per day at Masoning & Carpentering work [our?] per [our?] [Sarah?] [selling?] potatoes now Climene i must Close by you kiss Stelly for me Dont read this letter until you receive it Susan Grohe for I dont think you can read it at all without enclosing Susan with it
