In examining the technique of contemporary paintings one frequently finds the artist has achieved his objective by employing [illegible] flat areas of color as [illegible] [so?] the [illegible], [illegible] shapes of the [past?]. [The?] problems of composition of pattern, shapes, color, contrast are [similar?] to those of traditional art, but are resolved perhaps in non conforming ways. There is not necessarily any concern with perspective in the traditional sense. Color, design, pattern and [base?] are employed to create a backward movement into the canvas, forward from the canvas or [as?] movement outward. Present day [musicians?] achieve [illegible] sounds, so also visual artists reach out and explore new structure sometimes to achieve new fresh color vibratiom [and?] combinations, even to the point of creating a [illegible] note for contrast now and again.
