The Origin of the Earth The origin of the earth is not known. No facts are known as to its origin because no one was on the earth at that time, so no theory can even be presented. Men have long ago passe from the ignorant stage; they began to wonder and think about how everything has come about and so have passed on to a hypothetical stage and say " It might have been -" in the several hypothesis presented. Some suggestions relating to the origin of the earth may be formed in the relation of the earth to the solar system and some may be found in a study of Historical geology or a history of the earth. The interpretation, however, of the outside relations of the solar system is still far from clear and not well defined, but the three hypothesis are the only available source so far which undertake to explain the relationship existing. The solar system is composed of eight planets varying in size, which all revolve about a much larger but similar mass - the sun. A star is an independent body in space. Because the sun is such a body it is the star around which the eight plants revolve. The earth is one of the planets. Each planet has smaller bodies called satellites, which are controlled by it and which therefore revolve about it. The moon is a satellite, the largest in the solar system and it is controlled by the gravity of the earth. All of the planets revolve on their own axis and move around the sun in the same general direction in the same circular path in the same plane year after year. Most of the satellites also revolve in the same general direction around their planets. In the bedded rock of the earth is written the earth's history far back, and though a
