one of which I hope you will adopt & require it to be used in the construction of the Custom House. The white sand stone, I am assured by a good judge, is procured from a quarry a few miles above this place immediately on the bank of the Miss. River, and may be obtained in very large quantities & in very large blocks. It is soft when first take out of the quarry & is very easily worked, but when exposed to the air becomes so hard as to resist (almost) entirely
