relative to the Wilmot proviso, the Texas debt, the River Mail line from Cairo to New Orelans, the huge Indian claims and other magnificent financial schemes which he advocated in Congress and in which there was every reasons to believe he had himself pecuniary interest. I thank you for the trouble which you have taken on my account and for my constituents, & for your letters to me. I am glad that you propose to send my letter to the President and should be pleased to know that he will read this one too if he has the others as I am I assure you on my honor anxious for the success of his Administration, for himself personally, and his & your sincere friend.
