Neither of us felt up to much yesterday but I think it must be the climate and will pass over. The tropics are really very trying and tiring physically - every bit of action is positively fatigueing and wears us out. We try not to exert ourselves but even then we are always tired. We found, too, that we have to take a siesta every day after lunch in order to keep going at all. So much for that. Tomorrow we sail again thank goodness! and this time for Calcutta. I'm afraid that India will be another ordeal and I don't know whether we can stand another month of this enervating climate. India will be more dry and the nights probably will be a bit cooler so the we shall be more refreshed in the mornings. I wrote O.H. about our Java trip and our visit to the volcano [Papaudajaw?]. He shall pass the letter on so that I won't have to repeat this exciting and worthwhile excursion In some ways Java was disappointing in other ways very delightful. As a whole, however, it is a charming place and worthy
