really few and far between. While in Greece both Van and I sort of caught up with ourselves. Van got his report of Egypt into the mails, and his report of Greece drafted in the rough. Another morning in Naples showed also see it in the mails bound for New York. I accomplished quite a little sketching but even so I always seem to carry a lot of unfinished work about with me. When I get home I shall likely be able to complete all of these. Athens was delightful - that is the environment, local color and the monuments. The city proper is just another modern city (not so modern in some respect, however). We understand that Athens has not one single sewer at the present time, but there is a lovely marble stadium constructed not so long ago. According to our ideas the server should come first, but the stadium was donated by some wealthy Greek. And a stadium carries more dignity and show with it than a donation of a sewage system would! And in noise Athens can not be surpassed. The streets are vibrating with automobile sirens all hours of the night, people are shouting and
