dinner yesterday and the evening before and go to tea upon Sunday. People are very nice but sometimes it take less effort not to go, although we feel that we must when we are asked. It is part of the game! I am sorry to have missed Spain. It undoubtedly would appeal more to me than the other European countries will. I am not looking forward with any great anticipation anymore - then I won't be disappointed. The next time we come back to these countries, if we ever can; then I should like to skip all the capital cities and poke about among the little villages - they retain their atmosphere and local color whereas the big cities are all becoming modernized and industrialized. And where do I fit into a scheme like this? I loathe cities and if I could prevent it should never choose to live in anything larger than Boulder. These big cities are surely uninspiring and ordinary. If the sun would shine, perhaps that might make some difference. Geneva isn't very large - but it is clearly a cosmopolitan center. People from all over "rub elbows" upon the streets and in the League at all times of the world. It is a peaceable, quiet restful place. At ten at night most
