Said it would "make it look different" Swinging his hand round he over turned it on the floor, upon which he seized a broom and scrubbed the oil and turpentine into the floor, then painted over it. Oh, he was too contrary for any use. He declares I shall not take up the carpet in his room and that if I object to the dust he will sweep it himself! I forgot to say in the proper place that he grabbed a broom and went to sweeping up the ashes with such a rush that the dust was unbearable. He thinks I am too particular for anything. I am afraid I should actually quarrel with him if I had to live with him where he had any authority. But say nothing of this to him. The only way to get along with him is to give in to him always; he will have his own way. He says he shall probably always smoke occasionally; that you wouldn't mind it if it were not for my influence.
